Want to live in a beautiful community? Who is going to make it so but YOU? Volunteering can take so little time and makes such a big difference. MuseFlora owner Cana Potter aids her city of St. Louis Park by simply planting the blooming plants they dropped at her doorstep: Oak Hill Park gets some color with sunny yellow marigolds and candy pink petunias. It takes a one-time commitment of a mere two hours.
She has also committed to caring for the flowers planted at Jersey Park for the summer season. This commitment simply involves weeding a 5'x8' plot- a task that takes no more than 15 minutes a week- and alerting the city workers if they need to water more frequently. Though it's a small act of service, it has prompted her to explore her city a little more and has built a greater sense of pride in her neighborhood.
So, want to live in a beautiful community? Contact your city's volunteer coordinator, and tell them what you love to do, what your talents are. It's so easy.
