Ultra Violet, Pantone Color of the Year 2018
Every autumn, a secret team of trend forecasters gathers in a secret location somewhere on the globe to predict the future…of our closet.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, people do this. They choose a color that we’re going to fall in love with that year. Whether they are reading the signs of where our love is about to be directed or whether they simply strongly suggest what we should adore…well, that’s up for debate. But, we do know that somehow, something about the color they choose unites us. Between continents, between ages and classes, there’s just something about the Color of the Year that resonates with people around the world. And, this year, it’s Ultra Violet.
Ultra Violet is described as a blue-based purple, contemplative, enigmatic, creative and spiritual.
Now, generally, the Color of the Year will debut in the fashion and beauty markets: think runways, footwear and makeup palettes. But, what’s hot in pret-a-porter soon trickles into that which surrounds us, including home furnishings and décor. And, believe it or not, flowers. (Ahem…weddings.)
Now, I’m not suggesting that you run out and buy a new wardrobe or even ask me to start surrounding you in indigo arrangements, but maybe take a look with a fresh pair of eyes at the blue-violets that will be coming out over the next 12 months and notice how they make you feel. Silly as the whole ordeal may at first seem, a fresh perspective is always a good start to a new year.
